6th Grade Students

Required Reading

All required summer reading books will be available from www.varsitybooks.com after June 1, 2008. If you have any difficulty obtaining these titles, call Sue Clayton in the Business Office at (410) 263-9231, ext. 1262.

Read THREE books and answer the Guiding Questions for each one. Click here for the Guiding Questions.

To help you organize your thoughts, the Learning Department has created Pre-Writing Organizers (click here) that you can use to help answer each of the guiding questions.


Sixth graders MUST read:

Fever 1793 Laurie Halse Anderson

Plus ONE Biography of your choice

The book you choose will be used as an introduction to the sixth grade's biography genre study. Click here for examples of appropriate biography titles. Students may choose other titles.

And ONE Fantasy book of your choice

The fantasy book you choose must be one you have never read before. Be prepared to discuss your book and to provide a review of it when you return in the fall. Click here for examples of fantasy fiction.

Recommendations for Supplemental Reading

In addition to reading the required titles listed above, all students are encouraged to read several previously unread titles from the following list.
